"
So you're looking for a good movie or tv show about coding, and that's probably because:

you're feeling too unmotivated to code

you need some inspiration for a new project

you'd like to see how other coders do their job

you're so excited about programming that you want to binge-watch every movie about it

you're new to the word of code, what's better than movies to see how it actually works?

I haven't missed anything, right? Well, if iI did, tell me yours in a comment.

I won't make it long for you, so here we go:

Programming Movies

1. Jobs

[2013 - 2h 7m]

I doubt that there is a single programmer on this globe who hasn't at least heard of the name Steve Jobs.

This movie takes us on a journey into the life of the late chief executive officer (CEO), and co-founder of Apple, from his college days at Reed College to the birth of the widely-known Apple.

This movie is one of the most underrated yet best biographies of Steve Jobs, not only does it portray the personality of a creative and inspirational entrepreneur, but it sends instant vibes that will make you want to start your own Apple. And, it also, unlike others, throws the light on an important part of Jobs's life: Wozniak.

2. The Imitation Game

[2014 - 1h 54m]

Based on the biography of Alan Turing (he's a mathematician, but isn't math important for programmers?), with his fellow team of mathematicians, he tries to crack the German Enigma code.

Why should you watch it?

The Imitation Game portrays an exciting encryption process that any programmer will fall in love with and depicts the invention of the world’s first computer.

3. Hacker

[2016 - 1h 35m]

Also known as Anonymous, this one covers the thrilling story of a group of young hackers who get into the online black market.

And Walter O'Brien once said, "Hacking involves a different way of looking at problems that no one's thought of." You will get an insight into how hackers solve problems (ignore the crimes though).

4. Source Code

[2011 - 1h 33m]

Code rules this movie!

It depicts the crazy (for exciting!) attempt of a suicide bomber to launch an attack in a creative (and sick) method: he enters the body of another man, using code!

As its name implies, this thriller is exactly what source code is!

5- The Social Network

[2010 - 2h 1m]

Some people say that this movie has not a single detail that's not true, and while I highly doubt that, I know one thing, it will boost your motivation if you're lacking that, and hook you up with the word of bugs in no time.

In short, it tells the story of Facebook, showing us how Zuckerburg and his friends started the giant company with 2.85 billion monthly active users in 2021!

The film starts with Zuckerberg at Harvard University and illustrates the process he and his friends took to build the giant Facebook.

6- Untraceable

[2008 1h 41m]

A serial killer who happens to be a skilled programmer starts posting videos of his crimes.

He posts live videos torturing his victims, and the more people watch the life, the faster the victim dies. His programming skills are so good that the F.B.I couldn't trace him.

Away from becoming a serial killer, this movie is many programmers' favorite.

What's your favorite programming movie?

Let me know in a comment!
"
